Sweet-looking Charlie, the Black Lab, ran off with the family car and made his master do the fetching.

According to the Spokesman Review newspaper, Charlie’s owner, Mark Ewing, had just returned to his home in Slagle, Idaho after getting pizza. As Ewing walked to the house, Charlie jumped into the 2006 Chevy Impala through the open window and somehow knocked the shift lever into neutral.

Sitting on an incline, the car started rolling, picked up speed and plunged into the nearby Pend Oreille River, where it promptly sank.

Charlie leaped back out the window when the car started moving. Fortunately, his owner has a sense of humor, though he told the reporter, “There’s nothing weirder than looking at your car cruising down your driveway when you’re not in it and seeing your dog jump out, and then watching your car go splash.”

Caution: The scenes you are about to see

…contain graphic images of alleged Puppy Abuse and the emotional testimony of its victim. Gentle readers may wish to turn off their computers.

First, my mom took me by the neck…

Then, she pulled my ear:

Then she grabbed me by the leg:

…and when I tried to escape she ran me down like a wolf with a rabbit:

…and threw me down on my back and started tickling:

I am SO SUFFERING here! Somebody, please, CALL ANIMAL CONTROL!

Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie

It’s semiofficial: Dancer, the itsy-bitsy Chihuahua, likely is the world’s smallest dog.

The handbag-size squeaker has grown a bit, but he’s still plenty petite.

Dancer’s rust-colored frame measured 5 inches high Friday, his first birthday. That is shorter than the last world’s smallest dog, which, according to Guinness World Records, stood at 5.4 inches.

Soon, Guinness officials could recognize him as the world’s smallest living dog by height, a title he couldn’t claim until he was a year old.

Jenny Gomes of Okahumpka, Florida, who has raised the dog, said that at birth Dancer was the size of her thumb.

In less than two months, the tiny Dancer has appeared in People magazine and on ABC’s Good Morning America. Videos of the dog are some of the most popular ever on OrlandoSentinel.com.

“Oprah hasn’t called us yet,” said Gomes, adding that she is planning appearances on Ellen DeGeneres’ show, Martha Stewart’s program and Live with Regis and Kelly. “Dancer wants to meet Oprah.”

Gomes said she will mail papers for the Guinness record on Monday, and that it will take about four to eight weeks for officials to respond.
