With their webbed feet and water-resistant coats, Newfoundlands are natural swimming champs and have proven themselves invaluable for centuries as working dogs, both on land and in water. It only makes sense that “Newfies” would make ideal lifeguards, and the Penwith Lifeguards of Sennen Cove are already receiving praise for the heroic efforts of their furry new recruit, Bilbo.
BBC News reports why someday soon you may be asking the hero that saved your life at the beach to “sit and shake” in order to thank him…

What a great use for a Newfie! Nothing better than a dog using its inborn instinct. a working dog is a happy dog!
I just published a book titled Salty Dogs- all photos of dogs at the beach.

he has fur that is waterproof on the outside in the inside is dry/he has webfeet and he will be 5 soon
i wonder what the world is coming to, to sack this dog is crazy,if he only saved 1 person he,s done his job ,when are the people in high places going to come out of the clouds, and live in the real world, this dog has done a marvelous job and been a good advert for those who payed for his food they should be ashamed of themselves
Just read that Bilbo cannot do his job anymore….I think that is really silly…..Why not let a dog do such a heroic and life-saving thing……..government….
