Inside the house where the dogs were living
An Ore City dog lover apparently let her kindness get the best of her.
Over the years, she rescued stray dogs — 131 of them, according to the Longview News-Journal — and kept them all. Though the dogs got plenty of food, the woman and her husband do not appear to have provided them with medical care. The dogs were flea-infested, and many were losing hair or had oozing eyes.
After a neighbor complained, the sheriff’s office contacted the SPCA for help in removing the dogs. The woman was upset at the dogs being taken. “It’s always a shock that the owner doesn’t see what we see,” said Ann Barnes, SPCA of Texas’ senior vice president of operations.
Authorities, who also removed a parrot from the home, said they would not be filing animal cruelty charges.
