Blue Buffalo has issued a voluntary recall of three of their dried dog food products, which may contain excessive vitamin D. See the end of this post for the specific brands and use-by dates affected.
Too much vitamin D in a dog’s system can cause hypercalcemia, with symptoms of higher-than-normal water consumption, urination, upset stomach, reduced appetite and lethargy. If your dog is displaying any of these signs and has eaten any of the products listed below, call the Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435, and your veterinarian, immediately.
Thanks to Lorrie Shaw for blogging the recall. The FDA also has a press release with more information.
