The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the city council is considering a rule that would limit residents to 5 dogs at a time. The primary reason for the rule, according to its sponsors, is dog owners who don’t pick up after their dogs, leaving their back yards filled with waste and bad odors.
Previous attempts to pass a 3-dog limit have all been defeated. “A lot people I know have three or four dogs, including people who enforce the laws,” said Alderman Ray Suarez, who introduced the measure.
Chicago’s animal enforcement officials deal with about 30,000 stray dogs a year.
