- A woman in Minneapolis bit a pit bull on the nose when it attacked her yellow Labrador. When Amy Rice couldn’t pry the pit bull’s jaws free from her dog’s throat, she acted on instinct, afraid that Ella would be killed. The pit bull, named Frances, a stray waiting to go to a no-kill shelter, was only slightly injured. Ella suffered lacerations to the throat and psychological trauma. Frances was quarantined, and Rice was waiting to see if she needed rabies treatments.
- An Atlanta-area family is trying to raise $13,000 for an autism service dog. Jennifer and Michael Schwenker’s four-year-old twins were diagnosed at 18 months. In addition to the repetitive behaviors and limited interaction common with autism, they also experience “meltdowns” and have developed a knack for escaping from supervision.
