Geography, like much of life, is relative.
I don’t think of Connecticut as being to the south. But to dog sledders, it’s a practically balmy place.
So Kathy Lesinski is a bit of an anomaly.
She and her dogs will compete in several races this year, her fifth season of competition. One of the biggest will be the 100-mile Eagle Lake race in Northern Maine on January 24. Lesinski’s is the only Connecticut team entered.

“It’s unusual to have a team from that far south,” said Tenley Bennett, the race coordinator.
Connecticut doesn’t normally get heavy snowfall, so Kathy and her husband Bill get creative about training — driving to New Hampshire and using an all-terrain vehicle instead of a sled when there’s no snow available.
