For the 20th straight year, according to the American Kennel Club’s rankings, Labrador retrievers are the most popular dog in the United States.
The rest of the top 10 showed some change, though. German Shepherd Dogs moved up to the #2 spot, bumping Yorkies to #3; beagles overtook golden retrievers to rank #4; and bulldogs moved up to #6, pushing boxers to #7.
The AKC rankings are based on purebred registrations around the country. Accordingly, they also have a list of favorite breeds for major cities. There’s even a trivia quiz if you want to test your breed knowledge.
Congrats to the stalwart Labrador!
