Lacey's love lives on in the fund established in her honor

Lacey was a yellow lab who gave 13 years of love to her family. Now Kirk and Loretta Walters have decided to honor her by starting a fund to support police dogs’ medical care after they retire.

Most K-9 dogs go home with their handlers when they retire. But the wear and tear of years of active duty often leave them with chronic pain and joint problems. Lacey’s Fund ensures that they can live out their retirements with a good quality of life.

Lacey’s Fund is limited to Vermont police dogs, but Kirk Walters says he’s gotten inquiries from around the country about starting similar efforts.
