When Petunia disappeared from her owners’ property in Fredricksburg, Virginia, after Thanksgiving 2003, Kristen and John Pruitt thought she’d been killed somehow. But eight years later, almost to the day, they got a call from California that Petunia was alive — and very far from home.
Petunia had turned up at an animal shelter in Yuba County, California, some 2800 miles away. Thanks to her microchip, shelter employees were able to identify Petunia and contact the Pruitts. Apart from being a little undernourished, Petunia was “in great shape,” according to Yuba County Animal Control supervisor Debra Luis.
Happy holidays to Petunia and the Pruitts.
