The Urbana police department has a new drug-sniffing dog named Hunter. Hunter, a black Labrador rescue, works with officer Jay Loschen.
There’s just one catch: Loschen’s son is also named Hunter.

Hunter & Jay Loschen
Loschen’s previous dog partner was named Scooby, which posed no problems in the name department. Scooby worked with the department for eight years, six of those with Loschen, and helped out in hundreds of cases.
Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah Carlson points out the value of canine testimony in court cases: “Dogs can’t be falsely trained to alert. A dog can’t lie.”
After Scooby retired, Hunter was rescued and brought in to join Loschen. His trainer tried renaming him, but Hunter was firmly attached to his name.
So Loschen’s never sure, when he’s at home, which Hunter will answer when his name is called.
